History of Rock and Roll
The History of Rock and Roll takes students on a popular music timeline from the beginning of the 20th century to today. The course starts out in the roots of rock and roll, the blues. While it would great to include all great rock and rollers in the course, we will focus on those who have had an influential impact on the next generation. We will cover musicians from Robert Johnson in the Delta Blues era to current artists today. The course utilizes Gary Szatmary's book Rockin' in Time. 3rd Edition.
The History of Rock and Roll course is a mixture of discussion, lecture, live examples, video samples, research and music listening. Students will have the opportunity to explore connection between influential artists and their contemporaries.
